Universities as Regenerators | ONE WEEK TO GO
The role of universities in the developing landscape of cities will be the focus of this special briefing event at Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Art on 5 July.
A selection of senior representatives from development, investment, urban design and higher education will explore the maturing role of universities in our regional centres.
The alternative uses for the premises vacated by institutions, to untapped opportunities for student accommodation, capital funding, procurement and the latest design thinking to serve the evolving demography of paying and overseas students, will all feature on the agenda.
The line-up includes:
Diana Hampson, director of estates and facilities at the University of Manchester, overseeing a £1bn capital programme
Paul Hadaway, chief executive of Empiric Student Property, the student accommodation developer and investor
Patrick Arends, associate at Mecanoo, the architect behind the £350m engineering campus being built for the University of Manchester
Sue Emms, architect director at BDP, leading the £100m redevelopment of the former Royal Mail sorting office for Liverpool John Moores University
Ian McManus, director of estates at Manchester Metropolitan University
The event, sponsored by Morgan Sindall, is free to attend.
Networking and refreshments will begin at 2pm for a 2.30pm start, on the fourth floor of Manchester Metropolitan University’s Benzie Building. Presentations will conclude at around 5pm, followed by further networking and nibbles.
