Turley recruits renewables expert

Nicola Riley has been appointed as a senior director in the firm’s net zero infrastructure team.

Riley has joined Turley from WSP where she has spent the last two years, first as head of offshore wind and then as head of renewables. She will be based in the firm’s Manchester office.

At Turley, she will lead the team that works across renewable energy projects such as on and offshore wind farms, carbon capture, and clean fuel production facilities. The firm’s current projects include Hawthorn Pit Solar Farm and Carbon Capture Facility and Protos ERF.

Overall, Riley has more than 20 years experience in the renewables sector, including stints at John Laing and Fichtner Consulting Engineers.

She said she is “thrilled” to join Turley and is predicting a busy period ahead for the sector.

“The new Labour government’s commitment to net zero is evident through announcements on an onshore wind taskforce and the establishment of Great British Energy,” she said.

“[Add to this] a £500m increase in the budget made available for the recent Contracts for Difference (CfD) Auction Round 6 and manifesto promises to invest in carbon capture and storage, hydrogen and marine energy.”

Colin Morrison, senior director in Turley’s sustainability and ESG department, said hiring Riley is a statement of intent.

“Nicola’s appointment signals our commitment to the net zero infrastructure sector,” he said.

“As a business with thriving people, places and planet at heart, we want to be at the forefront of helping the UK and Ireland meet their legal obligation to be net zero by 2050.”

He added: “Not only does Nicola bring a huge wealth of knowledge and experience in all disciplines across the sector, she is also passionate about driving the decarbonisation agenda forward to create a better, more sustainable world for our communities and future generations.”

Turley’s net zero infrastructure team engages with all consenting regimes including development consent orders and developments of national significance, working across renewable energy production, storage and distribution together with industrial decarbonisation.

Turley has a core team of eight net zero infrastructure experts supported by more than 30 experienced NZI consultants from a range of specialisms including planning and EIA. The team work on projects across the UK and Ireland, deploying expertise and resource to meet the client and project needs.
