Timperley affordable homes secure council funding

Trafford Council is to fund a development of 30 affordable homes off Carrfield Avenue in Timperley after confirming a deal with Trafford Housing Trust.

Plans have been submitted by THT for the development at the site, which is currently vacant apart from an electricity substation. The proposals are for a three-storey block of 30 one and two-bedroom apartments including car and cycle parking. A public consultation took place in June this year, and Arcus Consulting is the architect.

Trafford Council has confirmed it will back the scheme via its affordable housing fund, which invites bids from registered providers and housing associations to build new affordable or social housing in the borough.

Set up last year, the fund is looking to address what the council describes as “significant affordability issues” in Trafford, where there is a lack of affordable housing and average rental costs of £850/month.

According to the council’s housing register, there are around 2,500 people on the waiting list for one and two-bedroom affordable homes in the borough.

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, said: “The scheme, if approved, will go some way to meeting the demand for social housing in Trafford and will provide people with attractive properties in a great location. Trafford, like many other areas, desperately needs new homes that people can afford to live in.

“Timperley is also a much sought after location with numerous selling points.”
