Taylor Young advises on new health facility
Liverpool & Sefton Health Partnership has secured planning consent to build a 78,000 sq ft mental health care facility on the site of the former Ian Skelly car showroom in Edge Lane, Liverpool.
The partnership, formed in 2004 as part of the government's Local Improvement Finance Trust initiative, will deliver the inpatient facility for Mersey Care NHS Trust.
The £24m privately-funded development will accommodate 85 beds in a building designed by London-based Medical Architecture, in a landscaped settinging. Taylor Young were the planning consultants for the project.
Gary Lynch, senior town planner at Taylor Young, said: "This is a very important scheme which will deliver a modern facility at the heart of the community, redeveloping a well-known derelict eyesore and signaling further investment along this major corridor into the city. Mersey Care and its consultant team have worked closely with Liverpool City Council and the local community throughout the pre-application stage to gain unprecedented support."
Construction partner Farrans Heron Joint Venture aim to start on site within the next few months and the facility is expected to be operational by 2013.
This is the second planning permission Taylor Young have secured for Liverpool & Sefton Health Partnership and Mersey Care in recent months, the first being for a similar facility at Walton Hospital, Rice Lane, Liverpool.
