Taylor Wimpey secures site as Crewe pushes on

The housebuilder’s North West division has completed the purchase of the final parcel of land to complete its Willowbrook Grange development in Shavington.

Taylor Wimpey’s new plot is situated at the north-eastern corner of the existing site and bordered by the B5071 Jack Mills Way and Crewe Road.

Building out of this final element of the scheme will add 42 properties ranging from two- to four-bedroom houses and apartments. Willowbrook Grange in total will comprise a total of 370 homes.

Ian Harrison, land director at Taylor Wimpey North West, said: “Securing this land will enable to the completion of our Willowbrook Grange development, but is just the latest chapter of our story in the area.”

“Crewe is a popular market for home buyers and a location we’re proud to bring quality new homes to.”

Taylor Wimpey’s deal, which follows recent progress of other schemes in the often-contentious Shavington area, comes as Cheshire East Council’s cabinet approved officers to pursue a number of interventions elsewhere in Crewe.

A £20m bid has been submitted to the Future High Streets fund centred around improving linkages, including improved access between the town centre and Grand Junction retail park, a new pedestrian and cycle link between Mill Street and the civic quarter, and a new highway between Dunwoody Way and Flag Lane.

The programme also includes the advancement of three town centre residential sites, a sustainable energy network, space for tech start-ups and further funding for a history centre.

Along with plans around the proposed HS2 hub – Cheshire East’s executive director for place Frank Jordan has now been asked to take on revised plans for the approach plans –  Crewe is also subject of a Towns Fund bid, and £750,000 accelerated funding is to be accepted from that Government programme for improvements to Lyceum Square.

Cllr Nick Mannion, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for environment and regeneration, said: “These are exciting times for Crewe and so much has already been achieved.

“We want to see it grow to become a town of national significance and these proposals show how we as a council are working to realise that ambition. By providing authority to officers to progress these projects it will allow us to act and respond swiftly so that we are that one step closer towards revitalising Crewe and the surrounding area.”
