Sheppard Robson appoints partner in Manchester

Alex Smith has been promoted to partner after nearly 16 years with the architectural firm.

Smith started out with the company in 2006 as an architectural assistant. During his time at Sheppard Robson, he has led several major projects including the Carnegie School of Sport building at Leeds Beckett University and the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory at the University of Birmingham.

Smith’s promotion was one of 12 announced this month for the Manchester office. These include six new associate partners: David Baldwin, Valentino Capelo, Clayre Massey, Jonathon McCrone, Eirini Tsianaka, and Richmal Wigglesworth.

A further five employees – Russell Dent, Mathew Millington, Sejal Mistry, Kevin Ryan, and Nicholas Scott – were promoted to the rank of associate.

Companywide, Sheppard Robson also appointed Lisa Byrne as human resources director and Ruth Marsh as head of sustainability.

Andrew German, managing partner at Sheppard Robson, commented: “The partners are delighted that so many of the team are progressing within the practice and being recognised for making such a positive contribution to our work and our culture.

“The number of promotions illustrates the growth of our business, which is reliant on finding the best talent and giving them space to progress.”

In addition to its Manchester office, Sheppard Robson operates out of London and Glasgow. Recent projects in the North West include Peel Media’s £110m MediaCity office, Bruntwood Works’ £30m Ev0 at Didsbury Technology Park and Aegon’s £90m Speakers House in Manchester city centre.
