Seddon to build Stockport industrial park

Stockport Council has appointed Seddon as the main contractor for Aurora Stockport, a 145,000 sq ft industrial park.

The council said work would begin on site in the coming weeks with the first units available for businesses in early 2017.

Aurora Stockport will transform an 18-acre derelict site close to Stockport town centre, next to junction 1 of the M60, into a modern business park comprising 10 light industrial units ranging from 8,700 sq ft to 47,000 sq ft.

The project is one part of Stockport’s £900m investment programme designed to make the town a better place to live, work and visit.

The council is investing £10m into the development and plans to retain the park upon completion.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, executive member for thriving economy at Stockport Council, said: “The standard of tenders received was very high and I am confident that Seddon will help us achieve our vision of transforming this area of our town into a thriving industrial park.

“I am excited about how work on our Growth projects is pressing ahead at the moment. Not only do we have a number of projects on site, but over recent weeks we have been able to make a number of announcements about companies such as Holiday Inn Express investing in the town centre.  The fact the first units at Aurora Stockport will be available in early 2017 will help our town grow even further.”

Ed Wootton, regional director of North West Construction at Seddon, said: “The prospects for providing training and employment opportunities across the supply chain during this build are fundamental to our core values. Along with the long-term plan to transform the site into a thriving area for local businesses, this project will provide a strong contribution to the Investing in Stockport programme.”

The council’s property partners, Carillion and CBRE, are acting as development manager and project manager. CBRE has also been appointed letting agent.
