Salford taps industry for design review forum
The city council wants to appoint 20 to 30 built environment professionals to a newly established panel aimed at “challenging developers” on the quality of their projects.
Salford City Council’s independent design review forum will “champion the highest standards of design across new developments in the city”, according to the authority.
The forum will deliberate over schemes and provide feedback before planning applications are submitted.
Members will be paid £350 per half day of reviews, and the chair will get £450.
Salford is looking for the expertise of architects, urban designers, masterplanners, landscape architects, and conservation and heritage specialists.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said the establishment of an independent design review panel is all about achieving the best possible outcomes for residents.
“I’m genuinely excited to see the change that this will bring about as part of a collaborative approach to working with the development community,” he said.
“We need to be creating places that truly enhance the quality of life of our residents, places that afford exceptional working environments for businesses and their employees, and places that celebrate our culture and grow the city’s visitor economy.”
Erm, one already exists in Places Matter, covering the whole of the North West. Is this the best use of tax payers money?

And the glaring omission is?????
Surely representation from a long term Resident of an Apartment Block must be considered of value. Their real life experience of architectural decisions should be valued.
