Rochdale signals approval for 49 affordable homes

Only the secretary of state stands between partners Great Places Housing Group, Stonebond Properties, and Empire House Piccadilly, and their delivery of 49 shared ownership houses in Norden.

Because of the project’s location, which spans a small section of the Green Belt, any decision from Rochdale Council is delayed until the secretary of state decides to call in the application for determination, or not.

As it stands, the council voted to grant planning permission at its planning committee meeting on Thursday.

The project focuses on land off Edenfield Road, which used to house dyeing facility Woodhouse Mills, later Tack Lea Works. Currently the site still has a few old buildings on the site.

The trio’s pitch is to construct 17 two-bedroom, 22 three-bedroom, and 10 four-bedroom houses on the plot. Each of the homes would have its own dedicated off-street parking space.

Lichfields led the planning process for the scheme, which was designed by Urban Green. E3P provided expertise regarding biodiversity, geo-environment site assessments, noise impact, air quality, and arboriculture. Eddisons was the transport consultant, while Townsend Water Engineering handled flood risk and drainage.

Rochdale Council also deliberated on Trammell Crow Company Logistics’ plans to construct 465,200 sq ft of industrial space on the Department for Work and Pensions’ distribution centre site, but opted to defer the application after receiving more than 250 pages of additional information on the project. Brilliant. Proper houses with gardens and views of fields and trees. And if the residents are smart, they can made a good neighborhood community out of this street.

Good to see houses being built on brownfield sites. Wouldn’t personally want to live in one of these, very dark and dingey little spot in a bit of it’s own valley.

Are they going to make these house wildlife friendly, another lot of trees going and no alternative space for wildlife, bury and Bolton and putting swift bricks and house Martin nests up on there new and old builds. Rochdale council need to start considering this

Enough housing already in norden what about traffic congestion polluting the atmosphere. Also a strain on doctors amenities.
