Rochdale leads Greater Manchester flood plan

Rochdale Council has awarded Skipton-based engineering advisor JBA Consulting a contract worth £450,000 to assess the surface water flood risk across the ten authorities of Greater Manchester.

Rochdale is the lead authority commissioning the work on behalf of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities.

Funding towards a Greater Manchester wide surface water management plan has been secured from Department for Environment and Rural Affairs.

JBA Consulting will map levels of risk for the area and detail specific problem areas for closer assessment. They will assess in detail a number of locations and potentially develop mitigation measures.

The contract will last for 12 months although "specific early outputs" are required. The study brief from Rochdale said "time is of the essence for this project".
