Revised St Helens growth plan revealed

St Helens council revealed its revised development plan to build ninety major schemes for the borough over a ten-year period last night.

Details on the Parkside Railfreight Distribution Centre, St Helens Rugby League Club stadium, the St Helens Chamber headquarters – costing around £6m – and St Helens Campus redevelopment, are the major schemes included in the plan.

Following the completion of a majority of the seventy original schemes, the council has revealed its revised plan five years since the original ideas were announced.

Amongst those schemes completed, as part of the multi-million pound redevelopment of St Helens, it includes St Helens Hospital and Mere Grange Business Park.

Last month, it was announced St Helens had benefited from a £23m Government Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, which has helped create over 2,000 jobs and 700 new businesses so far in the area.

It was the only borough in the North West to receive the funding and LEGI was built on the success of the St Helens City Growth Strategy, the economic vision to develop the borough until 2018.
