Regeneration Brainery appoints first chief executive

Michele Steel has taken the top post at charity Regeneration Brainery.

The newly appointed chief executive will help further the organisation’s mission to encourage young people from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in the built environment.

Steel has a strong property background herself, having previously been a director at Deloitte and a strategic planning director at Select Property and Vita Group. She has been working with Regeneration Brainery for awhile and will now be the organisation’s first chief executive.

Steel is passionate about her new role.

“When it comes to property, representation matters more than most industries, because we play such a crucial role in the creation of entire communities,” she said.

“It was the year 2000 when I started out in the property industry, and whilst the fashion and the tech may have changed rapidly, progress on diversity has been much slower.

“So I’m proud to be leading Regeneration Brainery into its next chapter. I’m excited to be using a creative yet practical approach to addressing the industry’s diversity challenge, drawing on my personal experiences over the last two decades. Having been supported by some incredible organisations and individuals to date, we want more partners to join us so we can expand our reach throughout the UK to get even more young people fired up about shaping the future of their communities.”

With Steel’s promotion comes the departure of director of strategy Judi Greenwood, who is leaving to focus more on her position as the programme lead for Future of Greater Manchester, a group dedicated to supporting the next generation of leaders.

Regeneration Brainery is Place North’s charity partner. Since Regeneration Brainery was founded in 2017, the charity has helped more than 6,000 young people pursue an interest in the built environment – thanks to the help of more than 500 industry mentors and ambassadors.
