Redrow buys Wigan plot for 117 homes
The housebuilder has acquired 13 acres off Bainbridge Avenue in the village of Lowton and plans to start construction of the units by the end of the month.
Redrow bought the land for an undisclosed sum from a private vendor, having earned planning permission for the 117-home development last October.
Known as Oakwood Fields, the project will comprise a mix of three- and four-bedroom homes, the first of which will be completed by the middle of 2022, according to the developer.
Claire Jarvis, managing director of Chorley-based Redrow Lancashire, said: “We’re actively seeking further land in this area, and stretching as far south as the M56 corridor, including all areas of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Warrington, as we see these are key locations with a high demand for new homes.”
As part of the proposals, Redrow plans to enhance an existing watercourse at the site to create a wildlife habitat and provide an “attractive landscaped feature” running through the development.
A footbridge crossing the watercourse will be built as part of a wider network of footpaths.
As part of the planning agreement, Redrow is contributing almost £175,000 towards secondary education provision in the area and around £130,000 for improvements to local play areas.
