Plans in for 72-bed Altrincham care home
A planning application for a 72-bed care home on Bankhall Lane in Hale, Altrincham, has been submitted to Trafford Council, despite objections from local residents.
Developer Octopus Healthcare plans to demolish an existing detached house on a 1.4 acre site, which backs on to green space and the river Bollin, and replace it with a specialist dementia care home.
Designed by architect C Squared, the development will comprise a series of interlinked low-rise buildings, as well as landscaped space for residents and parking on the site’s Bankhall Lane frontage.
Following pre-application feedback, the developers have added additional parking and have repositioned first-floor terraces to overlook green space to the rear of the site.
Care UK will be the care home’s operator, and professional team includes Strutt & Parker as planner.
The application has been submitted despite objections from local residents, who had raised concerns over an increase in traffic congestion around the area. Residents also argued the development would lead to a loss of green space in the area.
However, according to planning documents, Trafford’s planners have agreed to support the project in principle.
There are also plenty of pragmatic locals who recognise the significant need for these facilities!
