Plans in for 60-bed Widnes nursing home

Care Developments North West has lodged proposals with Halton Council for the development of a 24/7 facility on land off Warrington Road.

Specialising in end-of-life and dementia nursing care, if approved the home would provide 60 beds each with ensuite facilities to meet demand in the area, according to the planning statement produced by Strathmore Estates on behalf of Care Developments.

The facility would be developed on a vacant, derelict, brownfield site where former industrial buildings were demolished a decade ago.

MTC Architects has designed a three-storey building to provide 30,000 sq ft of space, which will be configured to maximise ease of movement for frail and elderly residents.

Each floor will include nurse stations, medical stores, specialist-assisted bathroom and shower rooms, with residents set to benefit from views onto a main private garden area.

As well as the building the plans make provision for 24 car parking spaces, and the facility would be reached via existing access from the south east corner of the site.

If approved the development would create the equivalent of 53 full-time jobs, according to the plans.

As well as MTC and Strathmore, Pennine Ecological, Godwins Arboricultural, Egorum, and Transport Planning (York) are on the project team.

Halton Council planners will decide on the proposals at a future date.
