Plans for 350 homes between Bury and Ramsbottom gather pace

Having consulted the local community on its plans last year, Hollins Strategic Land is preparing an outline planning application to build hundreds of homes on land off Walmersley Lane north of Bury.

Early stage plans for the scheme submitted to Bury Council describe it as “mixed-use”. It would feature 350 homes, with 40% earmarked as affordable, as well as employment and commercial space, a local retail centre, mobility hub, and areas of public open space.

Sketches of the project show an area to the south of the 30-acre site as being preserved for public open space.

The north of the site close to the M66 slip road is where the employment accommodation, mobility hub and local retail centre are planned.

Hollins Strategic Land is expected to argue that the site in question, currently designated as Green Belt, meets the criteria or Grey Belt.

Last year, the developer was successful at appeal in overturning Stockport Council’s decision to refuse permission for the redevelopment of Gatley Golf Club. The site has since been sold to Bellway.
