Peel buys Gibfield development land for £4m
Peel has acquired a 192-acre site near Gibfield Business Park in Wigan for £4.1m from landowner Longport.
The deal includes several tracts of land, including an eight-acre employment site, and a 19-acre development site that has been allocated in the local plan for development, although it is yet to receive planning permission.
The remaining 165 acres is currently agricultural land but has been earmarked for residential development.
The site, next to the existing Gibfield Business Park off the A577, has been bought from Guernsey-based Longport Properties, which entered administration in December last year.
Part of the business park has already been developed and is home to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
The land also sits near Keepmoat’s £35.5m Cottonfields housing development, which will provide 194 homes on the site of the former Barr soft drinks factory.
Philip Rothwell, planning director at Peel said: “This was a strategic acquisition as this site complements our existing land in the area and provides us with the potential to master plan these land holdings, bringing forward new infrastructure and potentially releasing land for complimentary development.”
