Parkgate Village wins long-awaited consent
The Tatton Estate and housebuilder Bellway Homes have been awarded planning permission to redevelop the 40-acre site near Knutsford into 234 homes.
Cheshire East Council granted consent for the project following a planning process that has been ongoing for more than three years.
Tatton Estate is one of the largest landowners in Cheshire. It first lodged plans for the development known as Parkgate Village more than six years ago and received outline consent for 235 homes in 2015.
However, a subsequent reserved matters application was deferred in November 2018 when the council claimed the proposal amounted to “inappropriate development in the green belt”. The Tatton Estate has since tweaked and resubmitted the scheme and appointed Bellway as housebuilder to deliver it.
The plans finally approved this month are for 234 homes, 71 of which will be made available on affordable tenures. There will also be bungalows and accessible homes as part of the scheme.
The plot sits to the north of the Parkgate Industrial Estate, to the east of Tatton Park and Knutsford, and is allocated for housing under Cheshire East’s Local Plan.
Pegasus is the planning consultant for the scheme. Tatton Estate and Bellway have both been contacted for comment.
Place North West reported last year that Tatton Estate was embarking on a review of the management of its property portfolio over the next two decades, which was expected to recommend fresh plans for development across the 5,000-acre estate.
