Northcoders moves to Manchester Technology Centre

The coding bootcamp provider has taken a five-year lease on 10,000 sq ft at Bruntwood SciTech’s Manchester Technology Centre on Oxford Road.

Northcoders moved from its previous 6,500 sq ft site at Federation House in NOMA, where it was based for two years, in late January through a phased move. Hermes IM purchased Federation after buying Co-op’s stake in NOMA. Co-op Digital leased Federation in full and the space was subsequently sublet to Northcoders while it was based there.

MTC now houses the company’s 30 teaching, partnership, marketing and senior leadership staff, along with 100 students.

Other tenants at 78,000 sq ft MTC include KPMG, which took 12,000 sq ft at MTC for a national technology innovation hub in August 2019.

Chris Hill, chief executive of Northcoders, said: “There is no better location for people to launch their coding careers than the heart of Manchester’s Innovation District. The new Northcoders Campus at Manchester Technology Centre will support our growth over the coming years.

“We have developed a fantastic relationship with Bruntwood Sci-Tech. They understand our ways of working, share our values and know what tech companies need.”

Thomas Renn, managing director of Manchester Science Partnerships, said: “The work Northcoders are doing around developing skills and creating the software developers of the future is critical to the growth of Manchester’s economy and is perfectly aligned with our vision of supporting the growth of the digital technology sector.”

Each company represented itself on the deal.

Bruntwood SciTech is a 50:50 joint venture between Bruntwood and Legal & General.
