Nolan Redshaw co-founder passes away

Mike Redshaw, co-founder and director of the Bury-based firm of chartered surveyors, has died suddenly at the age of 59.

Nolan Redshaw said the firm was “devastated to lose a friend, mentor and trusted advisor”.

Redshaw, who was born in 1960 and died on 5 May, spent more than 16 years with Nolan Redshaw where he headed up the professional and valuation departments, having founded the company with fellow director Paul Nolan.

Between 1978 and 1987 he was a captain in the British Army, representing the Royal Engineers and served overseas in Germany, Cyprus and Northern Ireland. Nolan explained that Redshaw’s army background fed into his professional life, describing him as “a great strategist with very high standards.”

After leaving the army he studied at Cambridge University where he graduated in 1990 with a master’s degree in land economy.

From there, he joined Matthews & Goodman where he first met Nolan. After Redshaw left in 1994 to join Acland Bracewell the pair stayed in touch and eventually reunited to form Nolan Redshaw in 2003.

Nolan said: “He died suddenly so it has taken his family and Nolan Redshaw by surprise. We are a bit shell-shocked, Mike was an ex-military guy so we were always planning things and were in the process of planning our next campaign. It has come as a real blow.

“Mike was a gentleman and a very generous chap. He was a natural leader, he took the front on a lot of things and was a great planner. He was going to become a consultant at the end of the year and reduce his time to do a bit of travelling but unfortunately he has been robbed of that.

“I have been inundated with emails and texts from clients and other agents and people we have dealt with over the years, so that gives an indication of his popularity.”

A postmortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death but Nolan said there was “no indication” that it was Covid-19.
