David Thwaites has joined GVA as an associate in the office agency team one month after being made redundant by Lambert Smith Hampton.
Thwaites was head of office agency at Lambert Smith Hampton in Manchester, and has 15 years' experience in property.
GVA also said it would be hiring a graduate to the office agency department. Robert Allred is studying for a masters in real estate at Cass Business School, City University London, and is due to start at GVA in September.
Chris Cheap, director and head of office agency at GVA, said: "David comes with a proven track record of transacting office space at all levels and is already well known to our existing client base. This really underpins our strong position within all North West office markets and the additional appointment of Robert Allred as graduate surveyor illustrates our commitment to providing the highest quality advice and service to our clients whilst harnessing new talent."
David Thwaites added: "Joining the GVA's North West Office team is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in some of the biggest developments in the region. Working alongside Chris, my private sector experience and knowledge of the North West market will bolster the team's reputation as one of the region's leading commercial property consultants."
These appointments follow the news that Richard Lace will be leaving GVA at the end of August to join OBI Property. Cheap added: "We would like to pass on our best wishes to Richard in his future career and we'd like to thank him for his commitment and dedication to the firm during 10 years of service."
GVA Manchester's office agency team will have five members; Chris Cheap, Ian Steele, both directors, David Thwaites, associate, Jonathan Lowe, surveyor, Robert Allred, graduate surveyor.
