Roomzzz puts in application for first Liverpool hotel

Roomzzz is targeting Liverpool as the location of its next city centre hotel, submitting a planning application to convert the upper floors of the George Henry Lee building on Church Street into 105 bedrooms.

Designed by Yeme Architects, on behalf of Roomzzz and The Broadley Group, floors two through to seven would feature a range of room sizes, including 22 windowless internal rooms, which are being installed to maximize use of the building’s large floorplates.

The George Henry Lee building and Northern link building was built in 1912, and was formerly occupied by John Lewis before the department store vacated to move in Liverpool One in 2008.

The conversion of the property into a hotel was first approved in 2014 but the plans were never progressed.

According to Yeme, “little change is proposed to the exterior”, other than turning a link building from the 1990s into the hotel entrance.

The scheme includes a gym, and a “grab-and-go” food offering. Rooms will be available for both short and longer lets.
