Pochin starts on £5m health centre

Pochin Construction has started work on the new 33,464 sq ft Frodsham and Helsby Integrated Resource Centre.

The scheme is being developed by Chester-based development company, Cityheart and its joint venture partner Community Solutions for Primary Care on behalf of NHS Western Cheshire.

The £5.8m health centre will incorporate two local GP practices, The Knoll Practice and The Frodsham Medical Practice, formerly the Rock practice.

In addition to servicing two practices, the centre will also provide community health services from counselling to dental and hospital based services, and will house a small pharmacy, a shop and cafe.

A sod cutting ceremony has taken place to mark the start on site with John Church, chairman of NHS Western Cheshire, Helen Bellairs, chief executive of NHS Western Cheshire, and Mayor of Frodsham, Cllr Brian Lloyd, among the guests.

Jonathan Pochin, managing director of Pochin Construction, said: "We are proud to be involved in this important project for Frodsham and Helsby. We have worked hard to keep disruption to a minimum and ensure the local community is kept up to date regarding activity on the site with regular newsletters. The majority of the materials incorporated into the building process will be sourced locally and we have a targeted economics plan to employ local subcontractors and site operatives where possible."

Construction is due to be completed by the end of the year with a view to the centre being fully operational late 2011.
