Northstone starts in Pendle

Peel L&P’s housebuilding division has begun work on 239 homes in Barrowfold, Lancashire, after securing planning approval in June.

The 23-acre development, named Keld, will provide a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes with 20% of the properties designated as affordable.

Northstone will also contribute towards improvements to Junction 13 of the M65, under the terms of the planning consent.

Outline planning permission for the Barrowford site was granted for up to 500 homes in 2017, and Northstone’s  permission submitted last December covers the southern half of the site with access from Riverside Drive.

Craig Nutter, commercial director at Northstone, said: “We provide homes with an emphasis on sustainability, design and efficiency, giving buyers flexible layouts to suit their style of living and energy-saving features to help reduce fuel bills.

“Homes at Keld will be suitable for first-time buyers, families and downsizers and we’re pleased to have worked with the council to incorporate homes that will also help to meet the area’s affordable housing needs in partnership with a registered provider.”

Keld is Northstone’s second housing development to break ground, with its first scheme of 150 homes already underway in Bolton.

Established in October 2018, the company is awaiting planning approval for schemes totalling more than 500 homes across Wigan, Bolton and Ellesmere Port,
