Lidl grows Logistics North warehouse by 520,000 sq ft
The supermarket giant wants to build a 1.16m sq ft regional distribution centre at the Bolton industrial complex, significantly expanding earlier plans for a 640,000 sq ft facility.
Lidl has lodged an application seeking permission for a 963,000 sq ft warehouse, to be constructed on 62 acres at Logistics North, the industrial scheme being developed by Harworth and the Lancashire County Pension Fund.
The shed would be expanded up to 1.16m sq ft as part of a later phase, according to Lidl’s plans. Overall the scheme is expected to create around 700 jobs.
Walsingham Planning and IMA Architects are advising Lidl on its plans for the regional distribution centre.
Lidl, which operates more than 850 supermarkets across the country, has twice been granted planning consent for its regional distribution centre at Logistics North.
In 2018, Bolton Council approved plans for 633,000 sq ft across two buildings and the following year the green light was given for a slightly larger scheme measuring 640,000 sq ft.
However, the need for a second building has now fallen away, according to Lidl.
The company has therefore revised its vision, and now proposed a single, larger warehouse building on a bigger site, having acquired an additional 19 acres.
Logistics North, at the former Cutacre colliery site close to Junction 4 of the M61, was granted outline consent for 4m sq ft of development in December 2013.
As well as Lidl, occupiers to have signed at the development include Amazon, Whistl, and Joy Group.
Do solar panels, green roofs, water collection etc get a look-in on developments like this?
