Grimleys to work on Blackpool Tower Ballroom revamp

GVA Grimley has been appointed by Blackpool Council to oversee the re-roofing of the famous Tower Ballroom.

The property advisor will provide design and contract administration services for the work, aimed at upgrading and protecting the Grade 1-listed landmark. The work includes rebuilding the opening roof over the iconic Ballroom. Work has started on site and will continue until around the end of the year.

GVA Grimley's appointment on the £600,000 project is part of the building consultancy team's continued work with Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Economic Development Company and Blackpool Council. The team has previously advised on the strategic acquisition of Winter Gardens, Blackpool Tower, Louis Tussauds, Oasis Amusement Arcade, Mr T's and the Sea Life Centre.

GVA Grimley also provided valuation services and due diligence, including building surveys of all the properties. As a result around 1 million sq ft of property has been inspected and reported on over a one-month period.

Layne Mercer, director at GVA Grimley, said: "Working on such a significant building and high profile project has been great for the team. The planned work to restore and upgrade the Tower will certainly go some way to transforming it to its former glory."
