Green light for mariners’ centre

Wirral Council has granted planning consent for a new building at Mariners Park, a retirement home in Wallasey.

The scheme comprises a community centre containing laundry, meeting rooms and café with 18 flats above.

Mariners Park is a retirement community of 109 units plus care home owned by Nautilus International, a trade union and professional organisation for 24,000 maritime professional.

Residents had complained about the lack of community facilities on the park and objected to sharing a facility within the current care home.

The design by Manchester-based Pozzoni Architects reflects the nautical themes of the location with art deco features inspired by the 1920s classic period of ship design. The building exploits views across the Mersey estuary and Irish Sea to Liverpool.
