The contractor’s interiors division has been appointed by e-commerce firm The Hut Group to equip its 376,000 sq ft facility at Airport City in Manchester.
The project – which forms the first phase of the wider £150m Airport City enterprise zone development, includes 168,000 sq ft of logistics and ‘content creation’ facilities, along with 104,000 sq ft of offices over four floors.
The wider project Airport City project involves the redevelopment of a 12-acre site close to Manchester Airport, being delivered by Icon Industrial, a joint venture between developer Stoford and TPG Real Estate.
THG’s fit-out has been designed by Penson architects. The project begins this month and is scheduled to complete next May.
Later phases of development at Airport City include a global headquarters for THG, work on which is to start within the next 12 months. This will include 280,000 sq ft of offices in the first phase, with a further three phases planned.
Together, these facilities are intended to provide space for up to 10,000 employees, and will be one of the UK’s largest bespoke office developments outside London. THG is embarking on a corporate expansion strategy after completing a £1.8bn stock market flotation in September – the country’s biggest public listing in five years.
Place North West reported in September that THG is lined up to take “significant” further space from Icon Industrial. The opportunities being marketed at the site are a speculative build 138,000 sq ft warehouse billed as Icon 138, and a design and build opportunity of up to 450,000 sq ft.
Sue Blanche, Graham’s development director, said: “THG is a global e-commerce company and is investing heavily in job creation across the region. We are delighted to be playing our part in this investment, ensuring a high-quality interior fit-out of studio and office space for the brand’s talented team of people.”
