The Hut Group starts on £150m Manchester Airport logistics hub

Contractor Winvic has broken ground on the first phase of The Hut Group’s £150m logistics park at Manchester Airport, developed by Stoford and TPG Real Estate.

The development includes 168,000 sq ft of logistics and content creation facilities along with 104,000 sq ft of offices over four floors. The headquarters will be home to as many as 2,000 staff once it completes in July 2020.

The Hut Group is also planning to start on its global headquarters at the airport in the next 12 months. This will include 280,000 sq ft of offices in the first phase, with a further three phases planned.

Together, these will eventually provide space for up to 10,000 employees, and will be one of the UK’s largest bespoke office developments outside London.

Matthew Moulding, chief executive officer of THG, said: “Today marks the start of an exciting next step for THG as we continue to expand the group’s creative content production and logistics capabilities in Manchester.

“We have experienced staggering global growth over the last few years, but our Northern roots are still incredibly important to us, which is why we are building Icon and our new HQ here. These facilities will bring thousands of additional jobs to the region and will help transform the area surrounding Manchester Airport into a hub for employment and creativity.”

Earlier this week, Icon – the joint venture between Stoford and TPG – also announced it had agreed a deal to bring airline catering services firm Alpha LSG to the airport, with the company taking 102,500 sq ft of logistics space.

May I remind some that Manchester is a part of the north west, not actually all of the north west. In case no one has noticed there’s also an airport in Liverpool which is begging for expansion.

MMCD, if The Hut were spending £150m around Liverpool Airport, I’m pretty sure the article wouldn’t mention Manchester Airport. Bit of a chip on the shoulder there me old son.

instead of scorning manchester, liverpool should belooking to emulate the investment in rail infrustructure to the aiport, new routes, a new cargo cneter and new terminal suitable for intercontinental travel.

MAG have promoted Airport City off their own back mostly, like the rest of the airport. Its a bit cheap to moan about it being too Manchester focused when they are bothering to get out and spend money on spec for infrastructure to support stuff like this

It’s about time taxi drivers had toilet in the car parks after travelling for 2/3 hours and there’s no where to go to the toilet

Would be nice to see some new bars and restaurants in airport city for the residents if it’s meant to be a new city. Maybe a cinema and bowling alley for the 75000 people that live there.
