Bellway breaks ground in Wigan

Construction has begun on 154 homes on the site of former Worsley Business Park on Mosley Common.

The 570,000 sq ft development at Parr Bridge Works is to be named Elements and will comprise of a mix of three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached houses. The development is expected to take two years to complete.

The developer, Bellway Homes, submitted a planning application in November 2018 and completed the acquisition in March 2019.

Bellway Homes has also made £781,000 in Section 106 contributions to support local infrastructure. Astle Planning and Design is the architect and acted on behalf of Bellway.

Elements is part of a wider masterplan for Mosley Common, put forward by Maxilead Ltd, which aims to turn the current metal recycling site into a community hub. Maxilead is set to move to Atherton in 2020, at which time the existing site will be demolished and developed into new infrastructure for the area. This includes plans for a life centre with a doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, and health care centre. Retail units, shops, restaurants and a children’s nursery are also proposed.

The overall Parr Bridge site has a professional team consisting of noise consultants and environmental practitioners Miller Goodall; Oaktree Environmental; building control inspector Align Group; design and environmental agency Urban Green; contractors WT Partnership; agents GunnerCooke; and chartered town planners JWPC.

Wigan Council received a planning application for the site in February 2017 which was approved in May 2018.
