Architect named on Westhoughton Town Hall refurb

Bolton-based architect Good & Tillotson has been picked to work up designs for the £2.5m refurbishment of Westhoughton Town Hall.

The project will seek to retain the building on the town’s Market Street with improvements on the table including upgrades to heating, lighting, and ventilation. It is expected the building will continue to be occupied throughout the restoration process.

As part of the deal, Good & Tillotson will work up designs from RIBA Stage one through to six, and will act as project manager for the £2.5m scheme.

Last year, the information office based in the town hall closed to relocate to the town’s library, based next door.

Bolton Council has already started the search for a contractor for the project, having issued tender documents last month. Following the selection of a contractor, work is expected to start later in the year.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Linda Thomas, said: “This represents a very significant investment in Westhoughton Town Hall, which the council recognises is a vital hub for services and the local community.

“It’s wonderful for the people of Westhoughton and important to preserve the heritage of this iconic building in the heart of the town centre. I look forward to seeing the building when it is completed.”

Well done G&T good to see local architects working on the scheme.

This is a nice little town. A town which still appreciates small businesses and localism. A great little High street and a real sense of community.
