April start for North Manchester’s £105m mental health campus 

Contractor Integrated Health Projects is to build New Park House, part of the wider £600m redevelopment of North Manchester General Hospital into a healthy living campus. 

IHP, a joint venture between Vinci Construction and Sir Robert McAlpine, has been appointed to build the 132,000 sq ft facility next to the existing Park House, following the demolition of a clutch of buildings including the Trust HQ building. 

A report to Manchester City Council’s health scrutiny committee says that work will start in April with the complex due to be operational in 2024. 

This follows planning approval for New Park House in January 2021 and business case sign-off by the government last November. 

Designed by Gilling Dod Architects, the inpatient facility comprises 150 bedrooms across nine single-sex wards.  

A purpose built Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, seven adult acute wards, an assessment suite and a variety of internal and external communal spaces feature in the plans for New Park House. 

Other elements of the wider redevelopment of 67-acre North Manchester General Hospital include the creation of a new acute hospital, homes, and a wellbeing hub. 

The redevelopment of the hospital alongside the 15,000-home Victoria North masterplan equate to a £4.5bn investment “the biggest combined investment ever made in North Manchester”, according to the council report.
