New jobs at Kings Waterfront hotels
The two hotels next to the new Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool – Jurys Inn and Staybridge Suites -have started recruiting 110 staff ahead of opening later this year.
The mid-range Jurys Inn is currently recruiting its operations and front of house staff and will create around 80 full-time-equivalent jobs in its first Liverpool hotel.
US-based Staybridge Suites, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, will create around 30 jobs in its first development in Europe.
John Wagner, vice president of Staybridge Suites in Europe, said: "We feel it is very important to employ local people in our hotel as no-one knows the city quite like they do. We want each Staybridge Suites hotel to take on its own personality, and our people will be key in doing that."
Jim Gill, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: "The development of Kings Waterfront is starting to bring real economic benefits to the city. We are seeing the creation of new jobs in the city centre.
"The 110 jobs being created by Jurys Inn and Staybridge Suites are significant, particularly when added to the jobs already created by ACC Liverpool. Kings will ultimately sustain around 2,100 jobs on site and many more times that figure in the city and beyond."
The Staybridge Suites hotel will comprise 132 fully equipped suites designed for the 'extended stay' guest.
The Jurys Inn will offer 310 bedrooms and 10 meeting rooms, as well as a bar, restaurant and coffee bar.
Pizza Express has already signed to take the main restaurant unit between the hotels and the ACC.
Kings Waterfront is the single largest development site in Liverpool city centre. A partnership of Liverpool Vision, national regeneration agency English Partnerships, North West Development Agency and Liverpool City Council, with additional funding support from the European Objective One programme, is jointly promoting its development.
