Muller appeals for feedback on Cheshire cricket club/resi deal

Aston Cricket Club plans to sell its ground to the developer and use the proceeds to relocate to a larger facility a short distance away, unlocking the redevelopment of the pitch it has played on for more than a century.

Muller Property Group has launched a public consultation on proposals to build 43 homes on the current cricket club, located off Sheppenhall Lane south west of Nantwich.

The ground is considered too small to host senior fixtures by the England and Wales Cricket Board, prompting the requirement for a larger site.

Aston CC is planning to move to a site off Whitchurch Road. The club claims it cannot afford to move unless it sells the ground it has occupied since the 19th century and owned since the 1950s.

The development of the current location by Muller will cross-fund the new facilities, with any surplus allocated to create a fund for the future running of the club.

The new cricket club site will offer a larger pitch as well as training facilities and a clubhouse.

Meanwhile, Muller’s scheme features 30% affordable provision and a village green at its heart.

Patrick Beesley, chairperson at Aston Cricket Club: “Aston Cricket Club is delighted to be working with Muller Property Group with our relocation project.

“Our current ground is too small since we have been hemmed in by housing so the only way – as advised by the ECB – we can continue to play cricket in the long term…is to relocate.”

This land was left to the community as recreational ground. It will totally ruin the community of Aston if it is filled with houses. There is absolutely no where for anyone to play safely . It is literally the only playground for anyone in the village. The new plan will devastate the local residents and will be strongly opposed

Ironic that the new development will include a village green – the game of cricket originated on village greens. Still, now there will be no more broken windows and no more “can we have our ball back mister?”

@Cherly Kay – You say “There is absolutely no where for anyone to play safely” … what about the proposed, new, larger cricket ground?

The new larger cricket ground that is to be gated and across a very busy main road??

Strongly oppose.

There is no green space in Aston that the community can enjoy. The cricket club are looking at this purely from a sporting perspective, not through the eyes of the wider community who need green, open space; not densely packed housing.

@Cheryl Kay – is it a cricket pitch in private ownership, or a public playground?

I think the bigger cricket space will be great for the aston community to be honest… But it is a shame to build so many houses 43 I think is far too many for that space. I’d hope with the correct planning they could make it a more spacious development with space between the houses for the current homes backing on the cricket ground.
