MIPIM 2008: Bluemantle/Ask present Bolton scheme
Cheshire developer Bluemantle and its partners Ask Developments used MIPIM to announce it has today submitted an outline planning application for a new £210m redevelopment of Bolton's Church Wharf site.
The proposal for the 14-acre site, which was announced at MIPIM in Cannes, could see the creation of a new quarter in the north east part of the town centre.
The new leisure zone would feature a multi-screen cinema, more than 15,000 sq ft of retail accommodation, up to 10 cafes, restaurants, bars, a new 120-bedroom boutique hotel, apartments, and a series of new pedestrian routes and public spaces.
It would also bring back into use some brownfield land, as well as creating a feature of the River Croal, which runs through the site.
The 720 residential units also planned for the scheme would combine family accommodation, apartments and starter homes.
Ask and Bluemantle were selected as preferred bidders last spring.
If the planning application is approved, the development will be completed in six phases, with work due to start in late 2009 and to be completed by 2014.
Mark Caldwell, chief executive of Bluemantle, said: "Church Wharf demands scale, ambition and quality, and we will be working hard with Ask Developments to make this impressive vision a reality."
