MCR plots £250m Gould Street development
MCR Property Group is planning to build more than 1,200 homes on a site on Gould Street in Manchester, next to Far East Consortium’s £200m MeadowSide.
The site is currently vacant having previously been home to a gas works and a call centre. It was fully remediated in 2011 and acquired by MCR from National Grid in 2015.
MCR now plans to build 1,219 apartments on the 6.7-acre site across a series of blocks ranging between six and 25 storeys, alongside underground parking. The project is expected to have a gross development value of £250m.
It is understood that a planning application will be submitted later this year or early next year, with the developer planning to complete the project by the end of 2021.
The site has long been earmarked for residential development by Manchester City Council and forms part of the New Cross Neighbourhood Development Framework.
The Gould Street site and its surroundings make up Zone C of the development area. A masterplan for this area was prepared for the council by planner Turley and architect Mecanoo.
MCR Property Group is still in the planning stages for the site, so is yet to appoint a professional team. The developer declined to comment on further details.
