McCarthy Stone proposes Lytham retirement community

Part of the former sixth form college in Ansdell could be redeveloped into a 59-home complex.

McCarthy Stone has begun a period of public consultation on its proposals to build 42 apartments and 17 bungalows off Albany Road.

The retirement living developer is preparing to submit an application for the scheme to Fylde Council.

Ciaran Aldridge, divisional managing director for the North at McCarthy Stone said the development would provide “much-needed” retirement accommodation in Ansdell.

The 2014 Fylde Coast Strategic Housing Market Assessment predicted a 41% increase in the number of people over 65 in Fylde up to 2030.

“There is a real need for specialist retirement accommodation in Ansdell, and this proposal would go some way to addressing that, whilst at the same time releasing existing family homes onto the market and relieving the pressure of local Green Belt release,” he said.

“The site is ideally located with public transport links to local shops and amenities nearby, as well as connections across the region.”

The project team includes The Planning Bureau, MCK Architects, and Cavendish, which is providing strategic communications.

A very busy road with a large school and parking by parents blocking the pavements. An over subscribed health Centre which needs to be enlarged for the local population.

As someone who is very familiar with this road, I’d say that, apart from school time, it’s only moderately busy at best. It’s also on a main bus route.

No problem with the scheme apart from, perhaps, the average architectural design of it.

The heath centre should have been a three-storey building I always thought.
