McCarthy Stone brings forward Bromborough retirement resi
Targeted at Wirral’s over 60s, the L-shaped accommodation block would provide 46 one- and two-bedroom apartments on the site of the former civic centre.
McCarthy Stone would build the scheme itself, which it says will help minimise the work’s impact on neighbouring residents and ensure its delivery within two years following a projected spring 2026 start date.
The developer acquired the Bromborough Civic Centre site off Allport Lane from the council.
Facilities within McCarthy Stone’s proposed scheme would include a communal lounge used for social events, movies, and games. The block would also have a landscaped private garden and mobility scooter storage.
Domestic support for residents would be offered as part of the scheme, covering cleaning, gardening, washing, and basic personal support – including shopping and guided exercise.

McCarthy Stone regards the scheme as a “passive form of development”, which would generate low levels of traffic and have a limited impact on the area.
Residents would take care of their own electricity bills, council tax, contents insurance, and TV and Broadband – but home insurance, water rates, and a 24-hour dedicated estate team are included in the living offer.
Access off Allport Lane would be retained. Demolition of the existing buildings would be required before construction.
Parking would be provided for 32 vehicles, and McCarthy Stone expects that residents would likely sell their cars due to ease and a lack of necessity living within the block.
A consultation process has now begun, with locals encouraged to share their views on the proposal until July 31, when submissions will end.
McCarthy Stone hopes to submit a planning application before the end of August.
