Mansell Building Solutions looks to appoint administrators
Citing a “prolonged period of exceptionally challenging trading conditions across the UK construction sector, alongside significant cash-flow and working-capital pressures caused by delays to a number of existing and new projects”, the Oldham-based light gauge steel frame specialist announced that it had filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.
Mansell Building Solutions has been in business since 1990 and is a family-run business.
In its accounts for the year finishing 31 December 2024, the latest recorded on Companies House, Mansell reported a turnover of £13m and a profit after tax of £481,188. While turnover was up from the year before by .7%, profit was down 53%.
Mansell faces a single outstanding debenture charge, which dates to 2008 and comes from National Westminster Bank.
Mansell opened its 45,000 sq ft headquarters with a MMC factory in Oldham at the start of this year in a launch event attended by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who was then the Mayor of Greater Manchester.
The company’s recent projects as a subcontractor included Cityheart’s £10m Bosden at Stopford Park in Stockport and the Rochdale Council’s 33-flat Corner Plot in Rochdale.
“Mansell has also always been about challenging the norm,” the company posted LinkedIn.
“From our Greater Manchester factory, we set out to do things differently and to help drive change in an industry that we believe needs to modernise. We invested in manufacturing, modern methods of construction and a different way of thinking about how buildings can be designed, made and delivered.
“Trying to change established ways of working is never easy, and the pace of change across construction has not always matched the ambition behind what we were trying to achieve. But we remain enormously proud that Mansell was prepared to try, to challenge convention and to push for something better.”
Brabners is advising Mansell, with RSM’s Christopher Ratten and Gareth Harris listed as the litigants in person for the case.
