Westmorland to consider 160 Kendal homes
The Cumbrian authority has recommended its planning committee approve plans for a neighbourhood off Hayclose Road despite an objection from the town council.
Applicant Alan Ball submitted outline plans for 160 homes on 19 acres in Kendal in 2022.
Next week Westmorland and Furness will make a decision on the plans, which are opposed by the town council for a range of reasons including impact on the NHS and highways.
Set east of Hayclose Road, the proposed development would have up to 160 homes – 35% of which would be affordable.
Illustrative plans, drawn up by Design by Pod, include a mix of homes from apartments and terraced houses to semi-detached and detached dwellings. The residences would come in a variety of sizes, with some having just one bedroom and others having up to four bedrooms.
The scheme’s proximity to Oxenholme station will carry significant weight when the proposal is determined; the updated NPPF includes a “default yes” for schemes close to train stations.
