Manchester University opens £260m framework

Firms have until 7 April to apply to carry out improvement and expansion works at the campus.

The university’s tender covers demolition, refurbishment, decoration, and landscaping.

Contractor appointments will be let under four lots, worth up to £20m: Lot One will range from £1 to £500,000, Lot Two from £500,000 to £1.5m, Lot Three from £1.5m to £5m, and Lot Four from £5m to £20m.

The four-year construction framework will cover projects up to £260m. Manchester University aims to accelerate the modernisation of its student accommodation, however no firm plans have been made at this stage.

Contracts will be awarded in August, with an estimated end date of March 2027.

Manchester University appointed Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, and Sir Robert McAlpine on its previous framework contract in 2015 to deliver its £1bn estates programme.

Projects delivered under this contract include the £287m Manchester Engineering Campus Development and the £60m Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre.
