Manchester Life phase one sites picked

The first two sites to be developed for housing by the joint venture between the council and Manchester City FC owner Abu Dhabi United Group will be in New Union Street, next to the Rochdale Canal, and Murrays' Mill in Ancoats.

The project teams have been named and planning applications are due to be submitted in spring 2015.

Murrays' Mill, originally a steam powered cotton mill, will be converted into apartments under the first phase of the Manchester Life programme.

  • Walker Morris, legal advice on land acquisition

Manchester Life Development Company is the residential property development company owned by Manchester City Council and Abu Dhabi United Group. It aims to deliver "the sympathetic and sustainable redevelopment of Ancoats and New Islington into vibrant and inclusive communities." More than 6,000 units are envisaged over the next 10 years in a £1bn investment.

Phase one of Manchester Life will provide more than 900 predominantly privately rented homes, helping to fulfill the demand for high quality residential accommodation, in line with Manchester's Residential Growth Strategy to provide tens of thousands of new homes by 2027.
