Manchester Gin distillery gets green light
The company has secured planning consent for a 5,300 sq ft space in six of the grade two-listed railway arches underneath the Manchester Central convention complex.
Working with Up North Architects and planner Euan Kellie Property Solutions, the company, which was founded in 2013, is planning to convert the arches into a distillery, events space, bar, and a restaurant over more than 5,000 sq ft.
Part of the arches will be dedicated to a new 1,000-litre still which will allow the distillery to ramp up production and create around 30 new jobs.
Three of the six arches along Watson Street will have floor-to-ceiling glass windows installed to provide the public with a view of the working distillery, while a bar, tasting area, and restaurant will also be opened. Manchester Gin currently operates out of a site on Temperance Street.
Planning was secured by delegated powers earlier this week, which will allow work to start ahead of a potential opening later this year. GVA acted on behalf of Manchester Central on the deal.
Great Work Pat, Darren, Euan et al. I can not wait for this to become a regular haunt of mine. Gin Gin!
