Manchester Central chief executive steps down

Lesley Tomlinson, chief executive of Manchester Central, has announced she will be leaving her position in August after six years in the role.

Tomlinson is being replaced by Angie Robinson on 1 September, who is taking up the post after spending one year as chief executive of Manchester's inward investment agency Midas.

Michael Oglesby, chairman of Midas, said: "Angie has successfully overseen Midas through a challenging period and we are extremely thankful for her hard work and leadership.

"Angie will be passing the baton on to Tim Newns, who will step up to the position of CEO in September. He is ideally placed to deliver this role, having worked for Midas for over six years, and we are confident that he will continue to deliver the excellent levels of success that Midas has become known for."

Tomlinson, who will remain on the board at Manchester Central, said: "I am really proud of what we have achieved over the last six years; the transformation of the building, the development of the brand and the hard earned reputation as a market leader. Delivered through incredible team work and the commitment of the whole team – I leave Manchester Central in very safe hands."

A £30m redevelopment was overseen by Tomlinson during her time at Manchester Central, which enhanced its offering by adding floor space, flexible meeting rooms, banqueting and technical facilities.

John Early, chairman of Manchester Central, said: "During the time she has been in post, Lesley and her team have transformed what was the old G-Mex and MICC, into the country's premier convention and exhibition facility that is Manchester Central today. I look forwarding to welcoming Angie in her new role and working with her to take Manchester Central on the next stage of its development."
