Maggie’s approved in Oldham
Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a specialist cancer treatment centre in the grounds of The Royal Oldham Hospital.
The 9,300 sq ft facility on the corner of Topside and Cheapfoot Lane has been designed by timber specialist dRMM, an international studio of architects and designers. Past projects include the Tower of Love Festival Headland in Blackpool, Rundeskogen in Norway, WoodBlock House and Kingsdale School in London.
Maggie’s Oldham is being fully funded by the Stoller Charitable Trust.
Maggie’s currently operates a facility at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Wirral, and is currently on site with a new centre at the Christie in South Manchester.
Maggie’s Oldham is due to complete in 2016.
According to planning documents, dRMM said that: “The new building will provide a calming, sanctuary space for people with cancer and their family and friends to receive support and advice.”
