Loungers plans for Cheshire Barclays overhaul

Approval would see the company behind the Lounge and Cosy Club brands convert the grade two-listed bank off Churchyardside Street in Nantwich to create a café bar.

Proposals for the 5,400 sq ft space include the installation of a bar, kitchen, and toilets to create Navio Lounge – the fourth addition to the Lounge chain in Cheshire.

The Lounge chain operates across the country with 20 restaurants in the North West. These include Milo in Liverpool and Navarro Lounge off Oxford Road in Manchester.

Richard Pedlar Architects designed the project on behalf of Loungers UK.

The former Barclays building dates back to 1876, designed by architect Thomas Bower.

Prominent features such as the building’s front façade and lobby will be retained to minimise impact on its historic character.

Now vacant, the bank closed last September.

Turley is the scheme’s planning consultant.

Elsewhere in Nantwich, David Wilson Homes North West and Muller Property Group were granted planning permission to build 188 homes on the land 18 acres south of Peter Destapleigh Way last month.
