Long-awaited transformation of Salford’s Mocha Parade begins
Demolition of the rundown retail parade to clear the Lower Broughton site for the creation of a Lidl supermarket has begun.

Contractors are on site knocking down the existing structures, many of which have been vacant for several years.
Salford City Council selected Lidl as its preferred retail partner last year, under its plans to breathe new life into Mocha Parade.
The retailer lodged plans for a 13,500 sq ft store in February but the application has not yet been approved by the council.
In 2012, Countryside Properties submitted plans for the redevelopment of Mocha Parade as part of its 1000-home New Broughton development.

Countryside proposed demolishing Mocha Parade and creating a replacement local centre featuring almost 50,000 sq ft of retail space.
The plans were approved but never progressed.
Elsewhere at Mocha Parade, developer Castle Gate Projects has been granted approval to create a medical centre.
Castle Gate’s scheme would see the consolidation of two existing Salford practices, Mocha Parade Medical Practice and Lower Broughton Health Centre, into a three-storey L-shaped building on the corner of Lower Broughton Road and Great Clowes Street.
Under the proposals, a single-storey former food bank would be demolished to make way for the project, although that work is yet to commence.

About time too. It’s brought shame to lower Broughton for years.

It’s been an eyesore for years, rubbish everywhere! I’d rather it was an Aldi but we’re gonna be sick with Lidl, which I have only been into twice and not very clean or tidy.
