Liverpool appoints interim chief executive

The hunt for a permanent chief executive for Liverpool City Council is set to soon begin. In the meantime, Theresa Grant will take the helm.

Previous chief executive Tony Reeves resigned last month.

Grant has worked in local government for more than 40 years, including as chief executive of Trafford Council and chief executive of Northamptonshire County Council.

In the wake of the recent commissioners’ report, Grant’s experience at Northamptonshire will no doubt prove helpful. Northamptonshire County Council was also undergoing government intervention when she worked there. Under her leadership, the authority became financially stable. Grant was awarded an OBE for her work at the council.

Liverpool Mayor Joanne Anderson said she was “delighted someone of Theresa’s calibre” was joining the council.

“Her experience will bring fresh energy, positivity, and a relentless focus on the challenges that lie ahead, so we become the council [that] the city and our residents our deserve,” Anderson said.

Mike Cunningham, the lead commissioner at Liverpool, also welcomed Grant’s appointment.

“She is a highly experienced leader with a track record of delivering improvement at pace,” he said.

“We are confident that she, along with a strong senior leadership team, will drive the positive change needed at Liverpool City Council.”

For her part, Grant said she was pleased to land the role, calling Liverpool a “vibrant, diverse, and hugely passionate city”.

“I am very much looking forward to working with staff, councillors, commissioners and partners, using my skills and experience to make improvements and deliver quality, value for money services for residents,” she said.

Grant is set to begin her role as Liverpool City Council interim chief executive officer towards the end of September. Anne Marie Lubanski will continue as head of paid service until Grant starts.

Haha did you see her record in Trafford?

By TJL

She’ll need all the luck and acumen she has gained over the years.

By Just saying

She needs to tell the councillors that the city is going nowhere unless they allow business and the market to prosper, bring in jobs and make the people of the city better off.

Tell her we want grade A office space and she must not show favouritism to Manchester. Liverpool needs jobs for our children and must stop at nothing.

Yes we need more Liverpool office’s! Government bias and the poor council means they have built too many in Sheffield and Manchester compared to here!

What we need is a simple clear message to investors and employers “We want you” and not the inane mixed metaphors of politically motivated councillors scoring points off each other even in their own parties, The Tall buildings policy, review it and make it workable, if LCC needs 30-40k new houses by 2035? Where do they think they can build them on, not every one wants to live in a bungalow. Good Luck Theresa.

It’s like a merry-go-round with these, people just constantly failing upwards. No connection to the area, no knowledge about the city. Major tory….unacceptable
