Liverpool announces MIPIM plans

Joining Rotheram and Anderson will be LCR chief executive Katherine Fairclough and city council chief executive Tony Reeves. Representatives from Arup, Avison Young, Brabners, Gleeds, Ion Developments, Lovell, Morgan Sindall Construction, Peel, Steven Hunt & Associates, Sutcliffe, and WSP will make up the Liverpool Place Partnership delegation.

The partnership will focus on showcasing the region’s work on innovative and sustainable projects, such as the Knowledge Quarter and Glass Futures.

In the name of sustainability, the Liverpool City Region stand outside of the Palais des Festivals will use rented furniture and have biodegradable giveaways.

“We go to MIPM with a fantastic story to tell and a glut of exciting and transformative projects that are ripe for investment,” Rotheram said. “The Liverpool City Region has limitless potential in a whole range of sectors, from advanced manufacturing to hydrogen and tidal power. We’ll be working to attract as much investment as possible to our region.

“But for that investment to mean anything, local people and communities have to really feel its benefits. That means creating well paid, highly skilled jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities, and helping to transform communities that have been left behind.”

The Future Impact Board, part of the Liverpool Place Partnership, has played an active role in leading the region’s MIPIM narrative. Made up of young property and construction professionals, it has helped craft key themes for the region at MIPIM: life sciences, ESG, and net zero.

Liverpool Place Partnership chair Stephen Cowperthwaite said the group was looking forward to returning to MIPIM.

“Since we were last in Cannes, through a host of webinars, meetings and roundtables we have been working hard as a partnership to ensure that our investment message isn’t purely centred around MIPIM,” he said. “However, it is an important event in the business and property calendar as it provides us with the international reach to secure further future investment.

“Liverpool City Region is already well established as a visitor destination and we will be championing how the region is also a great place to invest, for both investors and occupiers.

“The Future Impact Board is a statement of our commitment to the future, making sure that younger voices are heard on the world stage, and it has been important to involve them in our planning for this year’s presence.”

Liverpool City Region and Lancashire are both set to attend MIPIM 2022, while Manchester and Cheshire & Warrington have opted to sit this year out. The main focal point of UK-focused activity will be the UK Pavilion on La Croisette, where The Department for International Trade, Homes England, and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities will team up to promote the levelling up agenda.

MIPIM takes place 15-18 March in Cannes.
