Legacie recruits Slater as CFO

Joining from Vita Group, Mick Slater is charged with continuing the Liverpool-based developer’s growth strategy, which has already seen the company achieve £140m in turnover and double its headcount to more than 150 employees over the past three years.

Slater was previously chief financial officer at student accommodation leader Vita for 11 years. Prior to that he had experience working at Hologic, Tepnel Life Sciences, and KPMG.

At Legacie, Slater will use his 30 years of experience to support the company’s expanding development portfolio as well as its continued work as a contractor and operator.

“We are delighted to welcome Mick to the team,” said John Morley, founder and chief executive of Legacie.

“His financial insight and industry experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow and diversify,” he added.

Slater’s recruitment comes after a period of restructuring for Legacie, which saw Gavin Currie shift his title from managing director to chief operating officer. Currie has been with the company since 2021 and has been instrumental in increasing its turnover from £35m in 2021 to £140m today.

Morley said: “With Gavin’s promotion to chief operating officer and Mick joining as chief financial officer, we have significantly strengthened our leadership team to deliver on our long-term ambition to be a leading BTR provider in the UK.”

Legacie was founded in 2015 and has completed more than 20 projects and delivered more than 3,000 homes. Another 2,500 are currently under construction with a further 3,000 in the group’s pipeline.

Legacie has driven headlines for its work on picking up stalled projects and delivering them. These include the 301-flat Embankment Exchange in Salford, and the 500-home Parliament Square and 104-apartment Millers Place, both in Liverpool.

While most of its work of late has been in either Liverpool or Salford, the developer told Place that it had ambitions to grow its portfolio in Leeds and Sheffield.
